P.S. Happy Birthday to Me!

Happy Happy Birthday to Me! Love my birthday, just wish it didn't mean I have to add an extra year to my age!

My latest Sewing Project

So check out the cute quilt I made yesterday! It turned out better than I thought. I had the flowers, green stripes, and pink poka-dot on one side and the animals on the other...but it didn't look fun enough. I had a little bit of extra animal material so I cut it out and sewed individual squares to the green! Looks even better in person! Hope baby Lauren loves it!

Cal Brooks is Here!

Cal and Daddy...This is how I found them after I went to take a shower in the hospital. So cute I had to nab a picture!

Friday I was feeling kind of crampy so I thought..."what the heck" and I took some caster oil (against my husband's professional recommendation mind you). Didn't have any of the "normal" (if you know what I mean) response to the caster oil but within 2 hours I was having irregular contractions. We had drove to Mesa to have dinner with the Abrahams and play games with the Randalls...so I brought the hospital bag and car seat just in case.
Good thing we did! I was feeling uncomfortable to say the least at the Randalls playing games so Daniel thought it would be a good idea to stay at my parent's house. I got maybe 3 hours of sleep before my contractions were strong and regular enough that I couldn't sleep. Kelsey aka "night owl" kept me company until 3:30 when I finally woke Daniel up to take me to the hospital. We got there about 4 AM and I was dialated to 5 cm and 70% effaced. They finally got me going on my antibiotics for by GBS at 6 AM...ps hurts like no other...Lindsey you were totally right!
I got a glorious epidural which helped to slow my contractions a little bit so I could get the other needed dose of antibiotics before Cal came. Thanks to Daniel, Marcie, Laurie and Lindsey...I stayed very entertained in my labor room and decided at a later date I need to invest in a cupcake shop after watching a marathon of "DC Cupcakes". Are you kidding me? $4 dollars for a cupcake? I poke fun but if they are good...I would buy one too!
Everything went pretty good until I started pushing. By this time I was just tired...had only gotten three hours of sleep and it was now 2:50 PM. So I was pushing so so and then my water broke...literally all over the place and then Cal was almost there before the Doctor came in. I had to breathe through three rounds of contractions before she was ready to delivery the baby. And WOW...what a difference in how it feels to deliver a 7 lb 7 oz baby compared to the beast Porter was at 8 lbs 14 oz. Daniel wanted to make sure they didn't make a switch-a-roo so when they took him to give him a bath...he went too...yup same baby!
It took over 24 hours of procrastination to decide on a name...but now it is official! Cal Brooks Hansen! And he is such a cutie, especially with his little unidimple like Lexi! Sorry Grandpa...no red hair...but dark hair and a lot of it for a Beames baby! And Porter just loves him...I will have to post more pics of Cal and Porter later!

Think it through!

Ever done something dumb and wish you could take it back? That would be me yesterday. So I was at work yesterday and the red phone rang over my vocera (radio). So silly 37 weeks pregnant me thinks that I will be just fine to run down the hall and take a trip from the 3rd to the first floor to attend the code. Yeah...great idea. I wasn't sure if I was having contractions or what, but obviously I was not feeling well. I did make it through the last 1 1/2 hours of my shift. The pain in my belly subsided on the car ride home, but then came back with vengeance when I got home. I had given myself a nice hour to stiffen up!
Needless to say after having to hobbling to get to the bathroom twice during the middle of the night (mind you I am still pregnant) and then needing Daniel's help to get my legs into the bed...I decided I better call in to work. No way was I going to be able to work today...geez I can barely move. I just keep thinking that I would feel better if I did go into labor cuz then the epidural would take my pulled muscle or whatever pain away at least for a little bit:o)

Independence Day!

A very happy 4th of July to you all! Unlike the Castillos and Laurie having fun in the cool scene of Idaho...the rest of us were here in the heat of the Valley. Daniel and I spent the 4th with the Hansen's. We tried our hand at BBQ pit cooking. We absolutely love brisket so we thought we could give it a try. So 10 o'clock Saturday night we put the 20 pounds of seasoned meat into the pit...covered it with carpet and dirt (yum right?).

Daniel had to work the next day so Corey helped me pull the meat out of the pit which was "supposed" to be ready at 8 AM. Right....not so much. I took the temp of the meat when I got it home and it was definitely not tender nor hot enough to serve to anyone other than some kind of wild carnivore. So back into the oven it went for another 4 hours. Then it was mighty tasty! Love brisket...but it sure is a fatty meat! Here are some pics from our 4th of July adventure. Porter liked the fireworks but was easily distracted by a tennis ball cousin Anders let him play with as he kept traipsing through Aaron and Lucy's front yard plants...sorry Aaron and Lucy. Apparently our son was born in a barn...a true destructive hick. But a cute one right? Notice the plaid Patriotic colors we sported for the occasion? Thought I would get out pics in and make Aunt Heather proud that Lindsey isn't the only one to post on the family blog! Plus...had to get them in before the Idaho pictures turn up!

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day...belated of course! We had a fantastic time celebrating father's day both at our house and then at the Beames house as well! As you can tell from the mardi gras beads as well as the fruit punch mustache Porter grew in honor of the day....he had a great time helping to celebrate the festivities as well!
Grandpa and Porter are definitely fans of each other! Grandpa loves the red hair and Porter loves Grandpa and all the yummy treats Grandpa gives him when Mom and Dad aren't looking! I think Porter managed to eat two plates of cake before we finally had to tell him NO!
And of course...father and son! Porter sure does love his Dad! Happy Father's Day Daniel! Guess we better get ready for another Hansen rascal...he is on his way! Daniel did take Porter on a Father's and son's camp-out recently...they came home smelly which I am told means they had a great time! Porter sure does love the dirt! Quite the little boy:)

A Get Together to Not Forget

After treats and bribes we finally a picture where the kids are all looking at a camera. May not be the same camera but at least they are looking and not crying.

Okay, so not the best picture but priceless because of Porter's face. We all know he can be animated in crying but he can also be animated in smiling. What a cutie!

Weston was really content playing with Nicole's black hose. He was having a ball obviously, he had black smudges all over him!

Weston had more fun flopping in and out of the pool and crawling on the rocks. I think Elizabeth was the only one that had a good time in the actual pool!

So we decided to take all the kids swimming in a little kiddie pool at Nicole's house. It seemed like the adults had more fun watching the kids in the pool than they had playing in it. Short summary: Lexington was in for a few seconds and started crying, Elizabeth started playing with the hose and sprayed her on the head, Lex was done then. Elizabeth had a good time swimming in the pool. Meanwhile Porter just sat by the edge screaming. He had a stuff nose so grandma decided to be kind and blow his nose.. In a desperate attempt to get to him, she fell over into the pool!! Oh wow. In a flurry of action, everyone got out of the pool except Porter (I am not sure why he didn't just climb out instead of just sitting there crying) and Nicole was turning the hose knob that was controlling a little sprinkler. The sprinkler went haywire and started spraying all of us!! Once we got the water settled down, we were still getting wet because the water was leaking off the ceiling! Oh wow... It was quite the event.. If I left anything out please include it! Can't wait for the next get together.
